Mazafati dates first came to fame after World War II when an American serviceman returned from the war with his family to find that one of his dried Mazafati dates had turned into a brownish, mushy mass. After heating it a bit, he assumed that the dates were spoiled and decided to throw them away. Three days later, however, he opened a package of semi-dried Mazafati dates to find that they had almost completely lost their crunch. He ate a few more boxes and then felt guilty afterwards.
The brownish-coral variety of Mazafati dates is high in potassium and has been used in traditional medicine for hundreds of years. The potassium content of the dates is what gives them their incredible flavour: they’re rich and creamy, with a slightly bitter aftertaste. They’re also a good source of potassium, calcium, fiber, niacin, iron, phosphorus, potassium, selenium, thiamine, niacin, riboflavin, and folic acid. It’s also been shown that they have significant amounts of magnesium, phosphorus, sodium, and inositol. The health benefits of Mazafati dates are due to the phytonutrients that are in them.
The dried fruit of the plant, which goes by the name of “Iranian bunjir”, has long been a popular health food all over the world. The plants have been known to cure Iridology problems such as eye problems, asthma, and infertility, all of which is owed to its antibacterial properties. The leaves of the plant have also been credited with medicinal purposes; the leaves are said to treat arthritis and muscle spasms, as well as to provide relief from coughs and flu symptoms and other respiratory ailments. In addition to its beneficial health properties, the leaves of the plant are used to make medicines such as a tasty, sweet and sour drink, and an excellent alternative to alcoholic beverages. The dried fruit is also often dried and used in dessert recipes.
It’s widely known that Mazafati dates are packed with nutrients, which makes them ideal for a nutritious diet – they’re very low in calories and packed with vitamins and minerals. Mazafati date fruits are packed with protein, with the fruits having more protein than any other dessert fruit. They have high quantities of potassium, phosphorus, iron, zinc, copper, manganese and Vitamin B in their tissues. They also contain lots of vitamins A, C, E and folic acid, which will help maintain your body’s Ph balance.
The benefits don’t stop there, however; Iranian bam dates are also noted for their nutritional value. The harvesting of the fruit does not negatively affect the health of the fruit itself, but when it comes to harvesting the seed, it must be done in a way that does not negatively affect the quality of the seed. Because of this, the harvesting methods employed are carefully monitored, resulting in a maximum yield of high-quality Mazafati dates. Once harvested, the seeds are immediately frozen to keep them fresh for long periods of time.
Another added benefit to using these dates is that they have a higher content of vitamins, minerals, and essential oils. These vitamins, minerals, and essential oils can be utilized by the body for regular health maintenance. As you probably know, the typical healthy human diet does not provide enough of the nutrients needed by the body to maintain its optimum health – we all need vitamins and minerals, which are found in certain foods, such as fruits and vegetables.
